Seven Quick Takes: Flowers in the Bathroom Are A Thing, Right?

1. Hello, all! I hope you had a lovely week. 🙂 Today I went to a library book sale. Yes, my TBR list is frighteningly long, especially when you include the books I’ve checked out from the library, but who can resist 50c paperbacks? Not me, that’s for sure. I never go in with a list; instead, I pick through aaaaaaall the shelves, grab a huge stack of what looks interesting, sort through that stack, realize I’m not a millionaire, weed out some books, and repeat until I have a smallish stack of books I can’t bear to part with. Yes, I usually go to these things alone….why do you ask? 😛

2. What I’m reading:
-“Story of a Soul” is on hold until I burn through some of these new books.
-I started “The Habit of Being: Letters of Flannery O’Connor” and it is rapidly becoming one of my favorite books. She has me laughing out loud every few pages, and I am underlining paragraphs with abandon.

3. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Francis Cardinal George, who died today. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

4. Do any of you watch “The Blacklist”? My mom and I watch it every single week without fail. I may die of suspense before the new episode next week!

5. The carnations were getting a little ragged, so I moved them by the bathroom sink. This week’s flowers: red Gerber daisies!

6. Speaking of flowers by the bathroom sink: This morning, the shower would NOT turn on. I called the maintenance man, and apparently the knob was stripped on the inside. Easy fix! But as he was going in the bathroom , he said, “Wow, ma’am, I’ve never known anyone who puts fresh flowers by the bathroom sink.”
……….Really? This is a thing, right? Right?

7. Friday fun: Fr. Roderick made Buzzfeed! I saw the trailer this morning and, yeah, that’s how I felt too. 🙂

7 Quick Takes: Resurrection

1. Hello, all! Happy Easter!!!!!! How was everyone’s Lent and Easter? My Lent was uneventful; I gave up all social media, and after the first few days, I actually started to enjoy it! It was nice to be away from the torrent of information and to be out of the loop for a while. I’m still getting used to being able to check Facebook/Twitter/Instagram. I did think about this blog a lot, and whether I should delete it or keep going. Writing does not come naturally to me. However, I don’t think I should let go of this little corner of the internet just yet.
Easter was glorious! I stayed in SA for the first time ever and got to experience the entire Triduum at my parish. It. Was. Amazing.

2. What I’m reading these days:
*”Story of a Soul” St. Therese of Lisieux – Is there really ever a bad time to re-read this? NOPE. 🙂
* “Thug Kitchen” – I flipped through this on a recent trip to Barnes & Noble. It’s basically a vegan cookbook, except with things I would actually want to eat. I was mildly interested, but not enough to cough up $30, so imagine my delight when I saw it at the library yesterday! I’m always looking for new recipes for meatless Fridays that don’t involve tuna or quiche. F-bombs abound, but the recipes look appetizing and I’m excited to start cooking my way through this.

3. This past week, I bought some hot pink carnations on a whim and I seriously underestimated how much of a mood booster they would be. I love looking up at my bookshelf and seeing that pop of color, so I’m definitely going to make this a Thing. Don’t they look sweet?

4. “With Scars and All” – The Jesuit Post
“They say he’s coming back, but I can see the marks they left. He will never be the same.”
Read it and weep. I did.

5. Here is a gratuitous picture of my parish all decked out for Easter. You’re welcome. 🙂

6. I’ve been trying to eat healthier lately (see Take #2), so I bought a cauliflower. This is how my brain works. Naturally,I have no idea what to do with it. I suppose I could just roast it in the oven, but with what spices?

7. Friday funny:

7 Quick Takes: Tarantulas and Toenails

1. Dwija had her baby! Dwija had her baby!!!!!!! Welcome, Pointy Bird!

2. So let me tell you about my Tuesday. In the morning, I walked outside and saw this guy:
It was literally as long as my index finger and much more hideous in person. Like a true child of the Internet, I took a quick picture to show the friend I was FB chatting with before running inside.

3. Seeing the spider was traumatic enough, but then! Ohhhh, but then! I looked up like 15 minutes later AND THE SPIDER IS INSIDE MY HOUSE OH MY GOSHHHH. Of course, I flipped the F out.

My exact reaction.

I tweeted about it while keeping one eye on the intruder and frantically messaged my friend, who then immediately sassed me:
Men. 🙂

4. I didn’t want to leave the room, because I was afraid the spider would escape AND THEN WHAT?!? So after sobbing for 10 minutes, I found the biggest book in the room (which turned out to be the big green Catechism), wrapped it in a grocery bag, and swung it at the wall. Holy spider guts, y’all. I cried more tears of grossed out, threw away the bag, and then dried my eyes and calmly burned my house to the ground. Okay, I didn’t do the last one. But you’d better believe I wanted to.

5. I had to get out of the house after that, so I had a nice solo lunch and then went to heaven aka Barnes and Noble. Afterwards, I was sitting at the bus stop, just beginning to get over my gross morning, when this random guy comes and sits thisclosetome and begins grooming his toenails almost exactly like the soldier in Mulan. (I tried looking for a picture, but there are only so many times I can google “mulan soldier picking dirt out of toes” without wanting to vom forever) I wish I was lying.
Luckily I had Twitter to distract me and keep me from barfing.
Y’all always come through in times of need.

6. The bus came, and I was 1000% done with life in general, so I booked it to the chapel and spent the rest of the afternoon with Jesus. Much better.

7. Today I met Sr. Maria Kim, who is a Daughter of St. Paul!

*fangirls* She and another Sister just got to San Antonio to reestablish their presence here. Get excited, y’all!

7 Quick Takes: Well Hello There

Hi. I’m Liz.
Nice to meet you!

Some stuff about me really quick:I’m a Catholic, and I really, really love everything about the Church. I also enjoy reading, writing, crochet, tea, coffee, baking, making jam, the internet, and oh! Many, many other things. All the things.

I live in Texas. It’s an awful lot of fun!

I started this blog so that I could attempt to spread a little more joy around the interwebs. Sometimes I also blog over at The Cath Sisters Blog.

Lately, I’ve been listening to ALL the Nelly songs, thanks to this exchange on Twitter that happened a couple of days ago:
This is why they’re my favorites.

I can’t wait to start sharing things with you! 🙂
